My Story

Hi, and thank you for wanting to find out a little bit more about me and my shop.

A little bit about me and my family:

I’m married to David. I have 3 children and 2 step children and I consider myself extremely lucky to have 9 grandchildren who I adore. Being a Grandma is both a privilege and a joy.

My life before having a shop - a bit of a mix really, I’ve been a secretary for well known law firm in the 1970’s. I then went on to work in banking before and after having my children. I always felt I needed more of a challenge and at the age of 40 went to University to train as a primary School teacher, working for the NHS to support myself and family during training.

I loved being a teacher and developing children’s interest in learning, through a happy environment with lots of colour and creativity.

How I started the shop.

Next phase my lovely little shop located in the beautiful Piece Hall in Halifax is where I have been able to provide customers both local and from other areas around the World with an environment to browse and discover lots of pretty gifts and small home accessories. Nothing excites me more than finding something I love and sharing this with customers.

How we came up with the name for the shop. Both my daughter Katie and I love old musicals and The Sound of Music was our inspiration. We use brown paper bags and string to wrap up all those favourite things. Many an older customer may be heard singing the song as they walk along The Piece Hall balconies

The Piece Hall is now recognised as one of the places to visit. It’s history dates back to 1779 when is was a Cloth Hall were fabric was sold on a Saturday from a small trading room. My little shop is made up of 4 of the original rooms

We have been open in this location since the 1st August 2017 when it reopened to the public on Yorkshire Day.
